1. The methodology for determining the volumes of ecological flow (hereinafter referred to as the Methodology) was developed in accordance with subparagraph 24) of paragraph 1 of Article 23 of the Water Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the Code) and is intended to determine the volumes of ecological flow (quantitative and temporal characteristics of river flow) that ensure the sustainable functioning of aquatic ecological systems.

2. The following terms are used for the purposes of the Methodology:

1) ecological flow is the mandatory share of river flow intended to preserve the river, lake, and marine ecological system and to be left in nature;

2) a water ecological system is a set of surface water bodies, as well as the flora and fauna that live in or depend on these bodies;
