Kazakhstan supports global climate change policy

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zulfiya Suleimenova and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Kazakhstan Ms. Monica Iversen discussed issues of the Climate Club and the possibility of Kazakhstan's participation in this initiative during the bilateral meeting.
Recall that the Paris Agreement was a turning point in international climate policy. Our republic was the first among the CIS countries to ratify this agreement.
Thus, according to the commitments made, Kazakhstan will fully ensure the implementation of this agreement and by 2030, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 15%.
In addition, Kazakhstan has announced its intention to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Given that Kazakhstan's economy is energy intensive, this is an important step for our country.
To achieve this goal, in accordance with the Decree of the Head of State, a Strategy for achieving carbon neutrality of Kazakhstan until 2060 has been developed and approved, which aims to reflect both the economic and social benefits of the country from the transition to low-carbon development.
"In 2021, we adopted a new Ecological code. One of the important norms within the framework of the law was the introduction of the best available technologies and a chapter on adaptation to climate change. These novelties meet modern requirements and will reduce carbon emissions and adapt sectors of the economy vulnerable to climate change," the Minister noted during the meeting.
"In order to achieve the overall global goal of net zero emissions, Kazakhstan, represented by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, is considering an initiative to join the Climate Club," she added, referring to Ms. Monica Iversen.
In conclusion, it was said about Kazakhstan's continued support for the implementation of global climate change policy.
